The WOKE Manifesto

They called us woke.

They meant it as an insult.

We decided to accept the compliment.

Because we are awake.

We see people who are hurting.

We notice when someone is treated differently because of who they are, where they came from, whom they love, what they believe, or what they look like.

  • We believe freedom belongs to everyone.
  • We believe democracy is worth protecting.
  • We believe facts still matter.
  • We believe disagreement does not require cruelty.
  • We believe strength and compassion can exist in the same person.
  • We believe patriotism means wanting your country to become better, not pretending it has never been wrong.
  • We believe a child born poor deserves a real chance.
  • We believe your neighbor's dignity does not diminish your own.
  • We believe the rights we demand for ourselves must also belong to people we may never meet.
  • We believe character matters.
  • We believe decency matters.
  • We believe truth matters.

And we refuse to be embarrassed about caring.

So call us woke.

We know what the word means to us.

  • It means awake.
  • Aware.
  • Compassionate.
  • Courageous.
  • Free.

And unwilling to look the other way.

These are not radical values.

They are human values.

They are American values.

They are WOKE Values.

I believe this.

The WOKE Test

They told you WOKE was bad.

But have you ever stopped to ask what you actually believe?
